Mandi & Eric - ISIS FLOWERS Competition Winners

Back in March this year we ran a competition in conjunction with Limited Edition Magazine. The Prize was £300.00 towards Bridal Flowers and we were really happy to meet our winners Mandi & Eric who were getting married on the 25th June.

Mandi came to see us and chose a Hand Tied Compact Dome Shaped Bouquet of Open Blousey Avalanche Roses with tiny bits of ruscus around the edge. The Roses were decorated with Diamond pins and the stems finished with Ivory Satin Ribbon.

Her young Bridesmaids had a Long Stem Avalanche Rose dressed with Organza and a Diamond pin and both mum went for an Avalanche Rose Buttonhole.

We also did a top table arrangement of two rows of Avalanche Rose Heads in tiny vases.

After the Big Day Mandi & Eric sent us this wonderful picture of them both along with a lovely thank you

Tatiana & Matt's Wedding

We had the pleasure of both planning and doing the flowers for Tatiana & Matt's Wedding Day at Hartsfield Manor in Surrey and it was a gorgeous day

Tatiana made her entrance down the Grand Wooden Staircase which we had dressed with Pink Star Gazer Lily's - it made for a fabulous frame for her and her very proud father.

Tatiana's bouquet was very unusual - a loose Dome Bouquet of Pink Star Gazer Lily, Black Barraca Roses and Pale Pink Cymbidium Orchids (which we also used for a Garland for their lovely wedding cake) - with diamond pins in the Roses for that finishing touch.

Her Bridesmaids carried Posy's of Avalanche Roses with the Groom wearing a Black Barraca Rose.

The Ceremony Room was dressed

with floor standing 5 Arm Silver Candelabra dressed with foliage and Avalanche Roses, draped with Ivory Pearls.

For the Ceremony Table we created a contemporary arrangement of Avalanche Roses with Pitta foliage and Steel Grass decorated with Pearls

After the Ceremony we moved this arrangement to the centre of the Top Table were it fitted in perfectly.

Each Guest Table was dress with a 5 Arm Silver Candelabra each sitting in a base of Avalanche Roses, Cream Double Lisianthus, Pitta foliage and Steel Grass dressed with Ivory Pearls.

Each Candelabra was draped in Ivory Pearls with Pearls scattered on the Burgundy table cloths to complete the look

Mel & James got Married at The Selsdon Park Hotel & Golf Club on New Year's Eve. They chosen a classically elegant style for her Bridal Flowers which really suited the venue and the most importantly the couple themselves.

Mel had a hand tied dome shaped bouquet of Avalanche Roses with folded Aspidistra leaves to frame the bouquet.

The Stems were tied with dark green ribbon and finished with pearl pins. It was beautiful.

Her Bridesmaid had a smaller version of the bouquet but with Ivory ribbon around the stems.

We also made a 'thow away' bouquet for the Bride as Mel wanted to keep her Bouquet and have it preserved.

The Groom and the rest of the male Bridal Party had a single Avalanche Rose with Ruscus.

The couples two Mum's had lapel corsages of Ivory Singapore Orchids on magnets

The couple chose two styles of Table Centre Arrangements with some of the tables having 5 arm Silver Candleabra dressed with Ruscus & Avalanche Roses.

The rest of the tables were dressed with Clear Glass Fish Bowls with Avalanche Roses floating in water with steel grass around the inside.

The Top Table was dressed with 2 Candleabra's and a collection of various sizes of Clear Glass Fish Bowls filled with Avalanche Roses

Natalie & Danny Wedding

We first met Natalie at St Dunstan's Wedding Fair last February and we were thrilled when she booked us to do her Wedding Flowers and Venue Dressing for her wedding to Danny.

Natalie's bouquet was a dome of Red Majestic Lily's & the Groom had a buttonhole made from a Red Majestic Lily & an Ivory Calla Lily

All the Bridesmaids & Groomsmen ( and there was few of them ) had Ivory Arum's & Ivory Calla Lily's.

There Reception Guest Tables had Lily Vases filled with Red

Majestic & Ivory Arums all 33 of them and the room looked stunning with the white chair covers and back drop.

The Top Table had a selection of various size gold fish bowls with Red Majestic & Ivory Arums Lily's wrapped around inside and all the tables were scattered with green crystals

Natalie & Danny sent us a lovely thank you card with these kind words.

"We'd just like to say a huge Thank You to you & the team for helping to make our wedding day the most perfect day for us. Your attention to detail, time management & overall professionalism is impeccable.

We loved working with Michelle & Ice on the planning of their Big Day!

They are such a happy and relaxed couple and this was very much the style and theme of their Wedding Day.

Michelle had a smile on her face from the moment the make up artist arrived to do every ones hair and makeup and with a little bit of help from everyone she was in her dress and ready to go............

...............after a few special moments were captured on film

The Ceremony which was being held at St Mark's Church Tonbridge Wells and Ice and his best men were there all ready

After the Ceremony it was smiles & confetti all round & Ice managed a much needed smoke!

The Wedding Breakfast was held at the Spa Hotel in Tonbridge Wells and the couples cream and burgundy theme was carried through not only in their bridal flowers

but also in their accessories and venue dressing

Which included their fabulous wedding cake by Joanna @ The Yummy Cake Company which was personalised with their names

It was a shame to cut the cake but traditional has to be the order of the day, it was then time for some very funny speeches which had Michelle holding her head in her hands

All in all a very beautiful day for a very special couple

Karen & Dan's London Golf Club Wedding

I loved working with Karen & Dan and when they asked me to help co-ordinate their wedding day it soon became clear that they had put a lot of thought in to their big day.

There was something for everyone to enjoy on a lovely Saturday afternoon at The London Golf Club.

The afternoon started with a private ceremony for family and close friends in the Ceremony Room which had been dressed in romantic white drapes and dressed with avalanche roses, sage green sashes and fairy lights.

After the Ceremony the couple joined more arrivals downstairs for a cocktail drinks reception with a Aiden Kent the Sinatra tribute singer and magician Paul Martin entertaining.

It was soon time for dinner to be served and all the Guests were asked to make their way to the Long Room where food was served.

The highlight of the meal was definitely the Krispy Kreme Wedding Cake - stacked 7 tiers high!

DJ Simon Henderson played soft back ground tunes to warm up the Guests ready to boogie the night away to the Hula Groove.

If you didn't want to dance then you definitely did want to have your photograph taken in the Photo Booth which proved to be popular with all ages.

The evening ended with a stunning firework display by Flashpoint set to Take That's Shine.

The Guests were then treated to a Bus Ride back to the hotel.

St Georges Day at ISIS Flowers

Today we celebrated our very first St Georges Day at ISIS Flowers.

There was a lot of prep work to be done, yes that is Claire hiding behind the balloons.

We decided to take no chances and inflated over 100 red & white balloons to give to the children at the local junior school Hayes Primary on their way home from school.

We were ambushed and the balloons were gone in minutes, we then made a mad dash into the store to hide, as we ran out of balloons and there were still more children walking down the road.

This balloon giving away is serious business here in Hayes.

200 Balloons next time.

The London Golf Club Wedding Fair

For our stand at the London Golf Club Wedding Fair we decided that we were going to go for a cool classic white theme for our flowers.

We used ranunculus roses, spray roses, hydrangeas, stocks, hellebore's, bouvardia, avalanche roses, double lisianthus, white
tulips and calla lily's to make a selection of table centre pieces, pedestal arrangments and hand tied bouquets and some very elegant buttonholes and corsages.

We also launched our new range of scented candles that can be used with flowers for ceremony table or table centre pieces.

The candles are exclusive to us from Spain and are available in various sizes both circular and square.

Unfortunately we forgot our camera but on the stand opposit to us was the lovely fellow exhibitor Charlie Round -Turner who quickly assisted us and took some photographs for us. Charlie is a wedding photographer and you can view some of his excellent work at http://www.charlieroundturner.com

Sarah & Peter

It was a very cold but bright sunny December Saturday when Sarah & Peter got married!

Everyone had a great day, yes it was freezing, yes there was snow on the ground, lots of it but that did not stop the Bride & Groom and all of the Guests having the best time and so much fun, with the toffee vodka shots flowing no one really noticed the cold!

Sarah was being taken to Church in a Blue Rolls Royce but before that could happen we had to clear not just the drive but the whole road up to the main road so that the car could make it to the house and this was done with the help of Mum & Dad's fabulous neighbours.

Once safely in the car it was just a short drive to the church were Sarah & Peter were married among their family and close friends.

It was then time for the photographs and this proved to be slightly tricky in high heels and 4 inches of snow, but with a steadying hand from her new husband, Sarah managed to stay on two feet at all times and with the promise of warming drinks back home everyone braved the cold and joined in the photo shoot.

Back at home we had the marquee ready and the heating on full blast, and the champagne was literally on ice!

We greeted the Guests with trays of Vodka Shots and the steaming hot food buffet was served to warm everyone up!

There was a very special moment during the cake cutting when it was revealed that the Groom had insisted on making the Wedding Cake as his contribution to the Wedding Plans.

It was very beautifully decorated with the month of December in mind with a cute Mr & Mrs Snowman.

It tasted good as well!

Wedding Entertainment Tips

It's your Wedding Day and you want everyone to have a great time, so where do you start with your entertainment?

You have probably taken ages to plan your wedding day and you want everyone to have a great time but how much entertainment do you need to put on for your Guests.

Well first things first, keep within your budget. It would be great to have the same entertainment as our favourite celebrities but not if its going to swallow up most of your wedding budget.

So be practical and plan out your day.

If your wedding is an all day affair there are going to be times during the day than you might need want to think about having some entertainment through out the day especially if you are having an early ceremony but dinner is not served until much later in the day.

You will be spending time with your photographer after the ceremony for those all important photographs and some of your Guests may not know anyone other than the person they came with as with most weddings our Guests are made up with friends and family that we have been close to over the years as well as good friends that you have made recently together.

Putting on entertainment creates a talking point and helps to get the day to flow. But remember its does not have to be expensive.

So what is the best time to lay on Entertainment?

One of the biggest ‘lull’ times is the time between Ceremony and the Wedding Breakfast.

This is a great time for a magician to mingle with the Guests or you could surprise them with a ‘singing waiter’ act which is great fun.

If you are having your wedding and/or reception at a historical venue you could organise a guided tour for your Guests as a surprise.

Remember one thing you are never going to please everyone – most weddings are made up of Guests of diverse ages and even more diverse tastes. So whilst keeping your Guests in mind do chose a form of entertainment that you like as well or that is relevant to you wedding.

We recently had a wedding were the bride was Chinese and during the drinks reception we surprised the Guests with a Chinese Lion Dance Act and it was fantastic.

Another couple were Elvis fans and had an Elvis impersonator walked through the grounds singing love songs whilst the couple went off to have their photographs taken whilst another had a Frank Sinatra tribute singer do the same thing.

Don't forget there is nothing lovelier than a string quartet or jazz trio on a summers afternoon playing during the drinks reception.

What are the more cost effective forms of entertainment?

I would definitely say that for the evening entertainment a good DJ is the most cost effective form of entertainment.

Although I am finding more and more that couples are bringing their own IPod and Bose speakers and playing their own evening entertainment which is obviously a good way to save money on your entertainment budget. We had one couple that created their own party games that everyone had to take part in they went to a lot of trouble to create a Mr & Mrs Quiz and then had a Piñata challenge.

A casino is also a good form of entertainment and not over pricey you can hire a couple of tables with croupiers for less than £500.00.

Fantastic Magicians are great and can be hired for a couple of hours for around £400.00, great for a drinks reception and during dinner between serving of courses.

If you have a little more in your budget for entertainment, then perhaps you could go for a live band or a good tribute band, which can make the party swing, if they have a great reputation and well known they will be more expensive so make sure you have the budget.

Five ways to Entertain Children

1. Help the parents out and always do a goody bag at the dinner table – this gives the child something new to play with and will hopefully keep them entertained during dinner.

2. You could hire some over sized games such as Jenga or Connect for the children to play with.

3. A magic show is great and you could combine this with a magician working the drinks reception area.

4. Set up a Kids Korner - Purchase some Puzzle Books, storybooks, crayons etc and put these into a gift bag, or the Disney Store for the latest action figure. Most children love making things so Hobbycraft is great for kits to make jewellery and badges and much more.

5. Children’s Party Company! If you have more than 2 or 3 children and your budget can afford it look at a getting in a children’s entertainer such as http://www.tttsparties.co.uk/ & http://www.southeastchildcare.co.uk/ are both a god send!

Want to finish the evening with a bang!

Fireworks are always popular with everyone and are not as expensive as you might think. Always check with your venue first before booking them as some venues have strict policies.

But remember whatever the entertainment you choose, just enjoy the day and all the memories that it brings.

Do you really need a professional photographer?

Do you really need a professional? After all your friend, cousin, brother, neighbour has a great camera. Couldn’t they do just as good a job and save you a whole pile of money? Maybe. But then, I have a pretty nice pair of scissors. Trust me, you don’t want me to make your wedding dress.
I’ve been photographing weddings professionally for nearly 5 years now so I may be a little biased, but here are some reasons why I think this is one job where a professional is actually worth the money.

Every shot counts
Cameras are pretty good now. Lots of your friends might be very keen on their photography and able to produce a stunning picture every weekend. Ask them to show you their 10th best picture from a photo shoot and they may be able to show you something rather nice. How about shot 20? 50? A professional wedding photographer might deliver 300 shots from your day.

Some of these will be formal portraits, some grabbed candids and some of them will be groups. And some of them will be better than others. But you’ll want them all to be good. Because if shot 300 is of your long lost cousin Sylvia whom you haven’t seen for 20 years dancing playing Air Guitar on the dance floor you’re going to want it for blackmail purposes if nothing else.

Herding cats
There’s a big trend at the moment for photojournalism, reportage, call it what you will. Often the pictures you love the most are the ones that look like they are “just” candids – taken without the subject being aware. But even the most relaxed day isn’t going to be all like that.

Are you absolutely sure you don’t want just one group picture? The professional you choose should have the skills and experience to gather your guests together quickly and efficiently to allow for all the pictures you want. Or to advise you in advance when your shot list is just a little ambitious.

There may also be rules on photography during the ceremony. Trust me, nobody ever won an argument with a registrar about whether they could use flash while hanging from a chandelier to get that special shot. Your photographer will need to work within any fixed rules and to anticipate all the key points of the day. There’s no real way you can ask them to back the ceremony up and start again because you missed something.

When they take your portrait, your professional should be able to give any guidance you need to look your absolute best in the pictures. Formal posing is rather out of fashion at the moment but it’s amazing what a difference you can make to pictures by tiny changes to the angle and composition.

Things go wrong
Here’s something the bridal magazines (and maybe even your wedding coordinator!) won’t tell you. Things go wrong on wedding days. This can be anything from the wrong shade of buttonhole to a last minute seating plan change to major equipment failure and horrendous weather.

But none of that matters because (1) at the end of the day you’ll still be married and (2) the professionals you chose for the job will smooth the way. It’s unlikely you’ll even notice that anything has gone wrong (well, you may just spot 4 inches of rain….)

Your professional photographer should (of course) carry backups of all essential equipment such as cameras, flash guns etc and know that equipment well enough to get the best of them in all circumstances.

The shot at the top of this article was taken very late in the day but there was still plenty of light around I had an assistant on the left hand side performing two very vital jobs

1. Holding about £5,000 worth of studio level mobile flash to light the bride and groom and cast their reflection into the water.
2. To hide the sign that says “danger! do not walk out onto this path”….

It’s been a busy summer and after many rearranged appointments I finally made it The Private Rooms at Buckingham Gate at the invitation of Aali Ghufran the Conference & Private Rooms Manager.

So one rainy Friday morning Akansha from Vivah Weddings and Ericka from Fluttery Fly Events (we have found a real benefit in meeting up every couple of months just to talk & brainstorm about the world of wedding planning) and I arrived in Buckingham Gate which is just a short walk from some our most famous and beautiful landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the Royal Parks.

Just walking into the lobby area gives you a feeling of grandeur and aristocracy and this was before we even started our show around.

We set off from the wonderful courtyard garden with its famous Victorian Fountain, where you could hold your Civil Ceremony or Drinks Reception surrounded by the most stunning architecture all around you.

It was then off to Spa at Fifty One which is included in Harpers & Queen’s Worlds 100 Best Spa’s and from the moment you walked in you were greeted by the most amazing aromas from the Anne Sémonin spa treatments and oils, the Spa is used by many a famous face who may be staying at Buckingham Gate whilst on tour, filming or appearing in the West End. Of course we were keeping an eye out for familiar faces.

Whether you want an intimate candlelit dinner party or your Wedding Reception the historic private dining rooms are a perfect location. Ornately furnished with turn-of-the century chandeliers make this a stunning back drop for your event and the location could not be better.

Aali kindly invited us to have lunch with him and I would highly recommend doing so the food like everything else was exquisite and we were truly spoilt.

We were all in love with The Private Rooms and discussing endless possibilities by the time we said good bye to our host Aali.

I have to say that this gem which has played host to Presidents, Princes & Her Majesty the Queen along with sportsmen and film stars is definitely a venue with sophistication, elegance, consummately professional staff not too be missed.

A Guide to a stress free wedding!

Getting married should be the happiest time of your life but it can also be the most stressful!

To try and elevate the stress element get organised!

Keep a wedding file and store all your wedding information together in one place. Have sections for each element of your wedding such as ceremony, venue, photographer, music, cake, transport etc and file all the relevant information in the correct section. Type up a status report for your wedding, covering all aspects and up date this regularly and keep it in the front of your file.

Don’t be afraid to delegate to your friends and family, they won’t mind a bit. In fact they will be honoured that you asked them to help you, especially your mum! Try to remember this is a big day for her as well.

Always remember though this is you and your partner’s big day and you will drive yourself mad trying to please everyone. Be polite and thank them for their thoughts, suggestions and ideas but at the end of the day please yourself!

If you have a budget stick to it! Don’t feel that you have to have bigger and better than friends or a wedding straight from the pages of magazine. Remember that after the wedding day a phone call from your bank manager will be something you will not want.

At don't let yourself get stressed about the weather, it is the one thing that you just cannot do anything about, everyone hopes for a sunny day but a rainy day can be just as much fun & your photographs still fantastic.

Don’t let your wedding stress take the fun out of being together, have date nights and make them ‘wedding free’ nights – so that you can chill out and remind yourself why you are getting married in the first place.

Trevor kindly allowed us to use images from Sarah & Barry's wedding for their blog entry and I asked Trevor about himself and his wedding photography style.

'I specialise in shooting natural, vibrant, unrehearsed photographs, to capture the emotion, colour, texture as well as those unexpected magical moments.

The most important thing for me is that couples are able to relax and enjoy their day without having to worry about the photography.

I pride myself on a calmness which tends to radiate out to those who are perhaps not so calm on the day.

Over the past 25 years I have covered nearly 2000 couples weddings (I am getting the hang of it now! ) and many have stayed in touch over the years and have brought their families to the studio for portraits. Sarah & Barry

When Sarah & Barry asked us to look after their wedding day for them we knew it was going to be good fun!

Getting married on the 4th July was just the start.

The couple got married at the beautiful St Peter's Church Boughton Monchelsea which over looked the deer park and the famous Weald of Kent.

The boys finally all ready and off to church..........in a Red Ferrari and a Black Bugatti

After some last minute preparations The bride was ready and off to the Church in a beautiful Vintage car that her father had spent the previous year lovingly restoring for her wedding.

The Ceremony was lovely and the couple said their vows and signed the registrar to the singing a Gospel Choir

It was then time to go back to Barry's parents house were a huge marquee had been set up with a stunning red carpet to greet the Guests.

It was a lovely hot 4th July and the Guests enjoyed drinks and canapes whilst listening to a very funky Steel Band.

As the Guests were invited into dinner they were able to admire the stunning flower decorations by Amanda at Distinctly Floral.

It was soon time for speeches and the cutting of the Empire State Wedding Cake made by Icing on The Cake.

The couple had a big surprise in store for the Guests as they started their first dance, a slow romantic number which they performed with style and then the music beat changed on burst the most amazing break dancers to take over, entertain and encourage the Guests to join in!

All in all, a spectacular 4th July Wedding!

Michelle & Will

On behalf of Love & Lord the leading Italian Wedding Planning company I had the pleasure of working with Michelle & Will on their romantic wedding in Tuscany.

Despite a torrent of rain, that could have put a real dampener on the day, the couple had a beautiful ceremony in Sienna a historical walled city - a town so well preserved and maintained, free of traffic and full of history and monuments, to be considered an essential part of the world's cultural heritage.

At the Town Hall, Palazzo Comunale where the civil ceremony was held, Michelle walked down the aisle to join Will and he was blown away by how beautiful she looked.

After the ceremony we managed to get a few photographs in the Piazza del Campo among the tourists and Guests before getting back on board the coaches and making our way to Villa Vignamaggio in Greve, Chianti.

The Villa of Vignamaggio, surrounded by an elegant Italian garden in a stunningly beautiful corner of the Chianti countryside, offers an authentic testimony of country life during the Renaissance period. The main part of the villa dates back to the 14th century. The Gherardi family who bought the villa from the Gherardini at the end of the 16th century, were responsible for its present appearance.

Mona Lisa, the daughter of Anton Maria Gherardini, was born at Vignamaggio in 1479. It is rumoured that Leonardo's Mona Lisa painting was of her in fact those are Tuscan hills in the background. The film Much A Do About Nothing was also filmed here making good use of the lovely Italian Gardens.

Due to the weather the wedding breakfast was held inside but with the stunning flowers of every colour that Michelle had chosen the room looked amazing.

It was then time for the dancing, and of course that was going to be a fun time as well.

Patrick & Lisa Swayze

As we have all heard Patrick Swayze died last week after a brave battle with cancer. This weekend I was reading The Mail on Sunday and they had an extract from Patrick & Lisa's book 'The Time of My Life' its a moving account and I was particularly sadden but also somehow happy to read about their renewal of vow ceremony that took place last Summer.

Being the cowboy that he is Patrick Swayze road into the ceremony on a white stallion, which was perfect for our romantic lead hero but it was their vows to each other that I thought were really beautiful.

Lisa's vows:

'While the future is an unknown, the one thing I do know is that I will love you. I'm very lucky to have found you in my life and am grateful that I have had the ability to open my eyes and see what I have. Because what I have, the love, the greatness and enormity of what I feel informs everything around me and brings me back to what I cherish most. And in cherishing the most there is for me, I cherish you more'.

Patrick's response was:

'How do I tell you how lucky I feel, that you fell into my life? How grateful I am that you chose to love me? I know that because of you, I found my spirit, I saw the man I wanted to be. But most of all, you were my friend. Together we've created journeys that were beyond anything we could imagine. Journeys that dreams are made of......Yet you still take my breath away. I'm still not complete until I look in your eyes. You are my woman, my lover, my mate and my lady. I've loved you for ever, I love you now and I will love you for ever more'.

Beautiful Bride

Every Bride wants to look beautiful on her wedding day and even though most Brides will spend hours choosing the venue and the dress they sometimes leave their hair and make up to the last minute. I would always recommend that you invest in a professional make up artist.

I recently spoke with Cheryl Huggins, Beauty & Make Up Expert and asked her for some tips for Brides to be and she offered this advice:

Schedule a consultation with your make up artist as so that you can meet and look at their previous work and testimonials.

Before the trial go through magazines & find images that you like, Romantic, Elegant, Hollywood or Natural, its fine to say you like the look of these eyes but this lipstick, look for images that will work well with your features and skin tones. Always include looks that you definitely do not want and show these to your artist as well.

If you have not tried false lashes before don't rule them out, have a go at your trial, they can make your eyes looking stunning in photographs.

A picture of the dress or your theme will help the artiste to build a visual image of the look you will create together.

Let them know if you have any special requests allergies , birthmarks you want disguised.

Don't be afraid to say you don't like the look of your first trial, remember its your day and it may take a couple of go's to get exactly what you want.

Once you feel comfortable and are happy with your look, take a picture and write down the products & colours that have been used.

With your choice completed do not change your skin care or beauty regime close to the day of the wedding with rigorous facials, teeth whitening or fake tans as at any time your skin could react badly. If you are going to have a spray tan have it for your trial as well.

Always let the artist know all the details of your day such as timings, number of bridesmaids that may require make up, does the Mother of the Bride so that time can be built in to accommodate all on the day. Last minute additions may not always be possible.

Invest in regular skincare, eat and sleep well and drink lots of water to glow inside and out!

Look gorgeous and enjoy your day!

Amanda Brady - Distinctly Floral

We recently worked with Sarah & Barry on their wedding day & we had such a great time. Sarah had chosen Orchids as her flowers for her wedding & they were just stunning.

I asked Amanda Brady for some tips on using Orchids for a wedding & this is the advice she gave me:

"Orchids are fabulous flowers to add a touch of glamour and “wow” to a wedding. They used to be a sign of wealth in times gone by due to the cost required to cultivate them, hence the orchid houses at Kew Gardens.

These days they are much more readily available and are wonderful for weddings. There are a range of orchid varieties available, including phalaenopsis (or moth) orchid which is most popular for bridal bouquets and look beautiful as shower bouquets, or with individual heads added to hand-tied bouquets.

Other varieties include the slightly waxy and very robust cymbidium orchid which are great for table centres or even overarm bouquets; these are very wilt resistant and individual heads can even be scattered on tables for an additional touch of glamour, or floated in votives or low bowls. Dendrobium or Singapore orchids are a slightly smaller headed orchid and can be used as a secondary flower or are more commonly used in corsages; they also look fabulous on mass in tall vases.

Our favourites are the more unusual vanda orchids especially the striking Blue Magic which is in fact a deep purple. These are more like the phalaenopsis orchids in shape, but are very hardy and have been known to last months as a cut flower.

For Sarah and Barry, we chose the white phalaenopsis orchid as the primary flower and added the cymbidium orchid as the secondary flower and to add additional height to the tablecentres.

Using just orchids throughout the wedding gave the overall look a classy, elegant and sophisticated feel.

A Chinese bride has attempted to break the world record for the longest wedding dress by walking down the aisle in a 2,162m-long (7,083ft) gown.

Lin Rong's dress was made for her by her husband-to-be, Zhao Peng, and his family in eastern Jilin province. It took their 200 wedding guests three hours to unroll the fabric and decorate the train with 9,999 silk roses. Mr Zhao's mother said she knew her son was trying to express his love, but she thought the dress was a waste of money.

"I do not want a cliche wedding parade or banquet," China's Xinhua news agency quoted Mr Zhao as saying.

So instead, he decided he would use his nuptials to challenge the current wedding dress world record of 1,579m (5,180ft), set in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, on 1 April 2009. Mr Zhao enlisted most of his family to pitch in with his idea, bringing materials, choosing patterns, making silk roses and stitching on jewels on the day, Xinhua said. His aunt, who conveniently is a dressmaker, had agreed to make the design.

And Mr Zhao's feat did not end once he had tied the knot.
After the event, he cut the dress down to 1,984.1022m, to represent his bride's date of birth, and added 608 crystals, one for every day they had dated. Mr Zhao said he had submitted his attempt to Guinness World Records in London and would also be sending video footage.

"Both the length of the dress and the number of silk roses pinned on the wedding dress can make history," he said, but added that it did not matter to him whether he was successful or not.

The whole effort cost Mr Zhao about 40,000 yuan ($5,800; £3,470), but his schoolteacher bride was reported to have "laughed and cried at the romantic gesture".
Mr Zhao's mother appeared less impressed.

"It is a waste of money in my opinion," she told Xinhua.
"Though I understand that he wants to show his love on the big day."

Jennie & Paul's Wedding

Jennie & Paul met on the Internet and it was the start of a beautiful relationship.

Exactly 12 months after they first met Paul took Jennie away for a romantic weekend and popped the question and Jennie immediately said yes!

The couple picked Gatton Manor Golf & Country Club for the wedding ceremony and reception. It had lovely grounds and hidden gardens that were just perfect for their special day.

Jennie had decided on red as her main theme colour and her four bridesmaids has stunning strapless full length satin dresses with matching shoes.

Jennie's gown was embellished with tiny seed pearls and diamond beads it was truly beautiful.

Jennie decided on Grand Prix red roses as her main flower for both the bridal party flowers and the reception decoration. Jennie's bouquet was stunning made up of red roses and diamante pins whilst the bridesmaids had cream roses hand tied with red organza.

After an emotional civil ceremony Jennie & Paul exchanged vows and made their way out to their drinks reception to Signed Sealed Delivered by Steve Wonder!

During the drinks reception whilst the happy couple went off to have photographs their Guests enjoyed drinks, canapes and were entertained by magician Hugh Nightingale.

We held the drinks reception on the terrace which we dressed with rose petals, rose trees that we brought in especially and red heart shaped balloons.

This lovely little arch was one of the pictures that Jennie really wanted unfortunately all the tiny roses had died by August but we made small red and ivory organza ones and wired them to the frame to give the same effect, we were all really pleased with the results.

The couple were back just in time to hear Andy Wilsher start his performance as a surprise to the Guests Andy had been hired to perform his Frank Sinatra Tribute Act which was just fantastic for a sunny afternoon in Surrey.

It didn't take long for Paul to get in on the act and before long he was dueting with Frank which every one loved.

Then as a complete surprise instead of a first dance Paul sang solo to Jennie. He sang Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars and Jennie was just blown away.

The Guests were then asked to take their seats for dinner, after speeches, the Guests enjoyed a 5 course meal.

The dinning room was dressed to match the couples theme and the tables were dressed with rows of small glass votive holding a red rose head decorated with diamante.

Each table was named after a Disney character so each table had a Disney character attached to the table name holder (which the couple kept as keepsakes).

Jennie and Paul sat on a small 'sweetheart' table.

It was soon time to cut the cake. The cake was fabulous, three tiers with each tier decorated with red roses and diamante. Jennie & Paul's initials were engraved in icing on each side and it looked stunning.

Kate at Sophisticakes had done an amazing job which included setting it up and using a spirit level!

The DJ arrived and it was time for dancing and everyone took to

the dance floor including the New Mr & Mrs Chappell.

As dusk set in we had time for two more photographs - this amazing one on the bridge (which I had to test out to make sure it was safe first!) and my favourite photograph of Jennie & Paul with one of their heart shaped balloons.

In fact I loved it so much it is my new advert.

Race for Life -Hyde Park

Firstly a big thank you to all of you who sponsored me - between us we managed to raise over £1000.00 which is just fantastic!

Sarah (my sister) Amy (my niece) and I arrived in Hyde Park at around 10.30 am on Sunday with approximately 17,000 other walkers/runners. It was a great atmosphere and even a sudden down pour at 10.45 am didn't dampen spirits.

Gloria Hunniford gave a small speech and then we had a minutes silence to remember those who had passed away and those who are still fighting cancer.

Once the race started it was an amazing sight, ladies were singing, cheering and laughing.

It was very moving seeing ladies in front of us with their signs on their backs showing those they had lost and it made you so glad that you were doing something to help.

We completed our 5k walk in just under an hour and considering Sarah & I are far from athletes - we were really pleased.

We have already promised to do the 10k.

XinMei & Bruce Anniversary Party

After being the bestman at Julia & Ian's Wedding the year before, Bruce decided that his wife XinMei deserved the Wedding Reception that she never had when they got married 5 year's before and I was lucky enough to be asked to plan the whole event. We had so much fun!

The party was to be held at the couples home and we were going to build a marquee over the tennis court. Sounds easy but it took a whole week to do so!

First we had to put up the main marquee & as you can see I was a great help?!

The marquee started from the back of the house, down to the swimming pool and then down to the tennis court - the couple were worried about rain but it turned out to be the hottest day of the year & it was actually lovely to have so much shade!

Once the marquee was up it was time to dress the venue & XinMei had a clear theme in mind - all white with some touches of Chinese red in places

We started at the front gates which we decorated with red Gerber and ivy, we also placed Gerber heads in all the shrubs & bushes in the front garden - giving a warm welcome to all the guests.

Around the pool area we scattered silk Chinese cushions & flower decorations made from oriental orchids and bamboo set in a row of red roses, finished off with beautiful lanterns the pool area looked stunning.

We also created these fantastic floral decorations for the pool using children's floats - they were worked a treat & looked brilliant. The pool bar and walk way was decorated with Chinese Lanterns for the oriental touch.

Inside the marquee everything was white & it look amazing & very classic including the Baby Grand Piano.

We also created a country garden inside the marquee just under the marquee windows to bring the outside in....................

We had Guests flying from all over the world & had to keep a constant check on airport collections & hotel drop offs and of course there was those last minute changes to the place names to contend with as well.

Guests starting arriving almost an hour early but we were ready and so were the caterers, Chapter One. As the Guests enjoyed Chinese canapes and champagne Lion Dancers made a surprise appearance dancing around the reception area & gardens it was a spectacular sight.

Guests were soon called in to dinner and were treated to a 5 course meal and some amazing wines from Bruce's own collection. Hugh Nightingale entertained each table with his marvellous magic whilst we seated 165 Guests.

Once dinner was over the couples daughter performed a 30 minutes show singing and playing the piano - some of her Father's favourite songs. It was then over to Carl Joseph to entertain on the piano and then dancing the night away to the DJ or chilling by the pool reception area.

The reception area had been redecorated to give a beautiful atmospheric glow just perfect for a summer evening................

Guests were treated to a fantastic firework show that was show stopping!!

4 in the morning the last Guest has left - time to go home!

From our initial meeting with Toni it was clear that here was a very organised, straightforward individual who was calming and comforting, practical and imaginative. I felt that a weight had been lifted and after our first meeting I felt I had someone who I could turn to with the wedding minutiae. I was extremely happy to be able to hand over the responsibility for the day.

Having a wedding saved my sanity, and probably my job and my marriage! Toni was available for everything. She met and interviewed caterers, attended the venues on numerous occasions, liaised with the florist and the photographer, organised invitations and took on the acceptance list and questions – of which there were many – from the guests, organised travel to and from the venue, found hotels for our out-of-town guests………..you name it, she organised it for us.

Most importantly however, Toni kept control of our budget. Would I recommend the services of ISIS Events as wedding planners I can wholeheartedly say that I do!

Julia & Ian

When Julia and Ian decided to get married it was an amazing day and a mixture of New Zealand and quintessentially British touches throughout the day.

As Ian is originally from New Zealand there were family and friends flying in all week to take part in the celebrations with the majority of them staying at Julia & Ian's home!

The couple were to have a Civil Ceremony followed by a Church Blessing at St Nicolas Church in Chislehurst with the Wedding Breakfast taking place at The Bulls Head in Chislehurst.

So after some last minutes preparations which included the boy donning the same socks! It was off to the Civil Ceremony

The Civil Ceremony was beautiful especially touching as Julia was given away by her son Cosmo.

Julia's choice of colours which worked beautifully ivory and chocolate brown. The theme was carried through from the Bridesmaids dresses, to the men's suits, then into the reception decoration. The overall effect was very classy and stylish.

The Church Blessing was very emotional and everything

Julia & Ian wanted it to be.

After the Blessing there was some time for the couple to be alone and take some stunning photographs.

It was then time to take the Guests back for the Wedding Reception where they were treated to a big band sound with Pimms.

The music was brilliant the weather was amazing!

Inside we continued the colour theme and added some NZ touches with the tables named after New Zealand Islands that Ian had visited as a child. The overall look was very stylish.

The couple chose a typical New Zealand cake for their wedding cake, mini fresh fruit Pavlova's were displayed on a tiered cake stand, they looked great and tasted even better. It was then time for the speeches and the children had written their own very touching speeches where were a tribute to Julia.

And then the band began to swing....................

It was a beautiful day, a wonderful evening and just time for one last romantic photograph.

Nicki & Ed

On behalf of Love & Lord the leading Italian Wedding Planning company I had the pleasure of working with Nicki & Ed to create an amazing and fun wedding in Tuscany.

After a year of planning and with many last minute dotting I's and crossing T' by the Italians on paperwork the day had finally come and it was a lovely day. Nicki had family and friends fly in all the way from New Zealand and England and Ed, well he had friends fly all the way from England and Wales!

The couple had a civil ceremony in Certaldo Commune, Nicki looked so beautiful and radiant and Ed was speechless almost. After there Ceremony the couple drove off with their champagne and Ed shouting out the car window "I am so happy" and it was back to Villa Vignamaggio for the Wedding Breakfast.

With Ed being a fanatic Welsh Rugby fan it was not long before those Welsh Boys were singing not only their National Anthem but also a few other 'songs'.

Not to be outdone, Nicki and the New Zealand Ladies who are staunch supports of the NZ Rugby Team carried out their own version of a 'haka' which was awesome!

Sonia & Phil

Sonia & Phil had chosen Sonia's local family church to get married on the rainiest day Friday in June but this did not dampen anyones spirits it was a wonderful day.

St Lawrence's in Little Stanmore which was just stunning. It was a very special place in Sonia's life and was the perfect choice. The couple had family coming from all over the world to help them celebrate their wedding day.

With an 18th century interior in the style of continental baroque with ceiling and wall paintings by Laguerre, Bellucci and Sleter. Handel played the organ which has recently been restored.

St Lawrence's really didn't need much in the way of decoration but the pew ends were dressed with lilac blooms and cream roses to match Sonia's bouquet.

The rain unfortunately decided that it too was going to attend the wedding with great gusto and Sonia's 4 ushers had their worked cut out for them getting the Guests from cars to the church without getting soaked.

The Bride had to make a small journey across the road from her house to the Church with 3 umbrella's sheltering her, being the true sport she is Sonia hitched her dress up & just got on with it arriving in style!

The ceremony was beautiful with the London Concord Choir singing Sonia & Phil's favourite hymns.

After the Ceremony we had to hand back the 45 brollies that we had collected from the Guests on the way in and it was next door to the Church Hall for a brief Reception for all the local parishioners and neighbours who had know Sonia all since childhood.

The Wedding Reception was going to be held at Leeds Castle so once the Bride & Groom had made their way to their car it was time to get the Guests in to the Coach and off to Leeds Castle, one of Kent's most historical homes of King Henry VIII with its amazing Maze.

Afternoon Tea was served in the Castle Dinning Room for Bridal Party, while the rest of the Guests were treated to a guided tour of the Castle which was then followed by a Drinks Reception. Where Guests were asked to sign a guest book as a keepsake for the couple.

Sonia's Wedding Gown was stunning encrusted with pearls and crystal it was truly breathtaking.

It was then it was time to cut the fabulous cake which was two tiers with tiny little lilac flowers.

Dinner was served on long tables with Guests sitting either side. The tables were dressed with beautiful lanterns and tea lights giving off a really old fashioned glow. Guests were treated to 4 course meal followed by speeches. .

And then it was time for that all important first dance and the to dance the night away in the Heraldry Room.

Georgina & Lee

It was a lovely Friday in June when Georgina & Lee got married.

Family and friends had flown in from all around the world for the event and with so many friends and family to share the event it couldn't help but be an amazing day with lots of surprises.

Once again the venue was Salomon's in Kent and a Civil Ceremony outside the Gold Room on the terrace was planned.

The weather kept us guessing right to the last moment in fact we were a few minutes late
getting started as we were waiting until the last minute just in case those dark clouds didn't lift but they did!

With everyone in place Georgina made her entrance through the gardens of Salomon's with her 3 small attendants who carried large red heart balloons which matched Georgina's amazing red wedding dress!

The theme for the wedding was Black Tie & Cocktail Dresses and all the Ladies were asked to wear black and white. So when the Groom took his place by his Bride to be he looked very dashing in his Tux.

Oh and did I mention the Bride made her entrance to Nice Day For A White Wedding, which had everyone in giggles and there were even bigger giggles when the couple headed back down the aisle to Bananrama 'Venus' song - to celebrate the marriage of the new Mr & Mrs Venus!

Georgina looked amazing in her red wedding dress which was trimmed with crystals and her silver & crystal accessories.

After the ceremony drinks and canapes were served on the lawn, those threatening rain clouds had disappeared and we were treated to a sunny afternoon. With Georgina and Lee mingling with the Guests and taking photographs and all the children playing it was a lovely time for all.

Dinner was served in The Library and Guests were treated to a BBQ which was delicious. The tables were decorated to match the black and white theme with black cloths & white Gerber's in clear glass vases sitting on beautiful round mirrors with tea lights and sparkles scattered.

The couple had chosen a truly vintage idea for their wedding cake, with individual white french fancies which had been pain staking decorated by a couple of Georgina's friends the night before, they also tasted fantastic and were served as dessert.

It was speech time and not only did Lee & his Bestman say a few words so did Georgina.

It was then time to dance the night away and celebrate in style.

Friday April 27th was a very special day for Tony & Karen and of course Alfie!

Karen & Tony got married at Bayliffs Court in Climping, West Sussex.

The couple had a romantic Civil Ceremony which was held in one of the beautiful staterooms. It was an emotional moment for Karen who cried once she reached Tony side.

The Civil Ceremony was then followed by a Church Blessing in the 14th Century Chapel in the grounds of Bayliffs Court which was dressed with large white church candles to give a romantic tone to the surroundings. The highlight of the Ceremony was Alfie to sat and stood each time the congregation did during the ceremony.

The day was celebrated with only a handful of family members and close friends 9 in total - oh and Alfie!

On Saturday 28th April Tony & Karen had their Wedding Reception Party & what a fabulous bash that was!

165 Guests joined the couple at Salomon's in Southborough, Kent for a drinks reception on the terrace, while the Jazz Band Around Midnight entertained on a wonderful summer afternoon.

Guests were treated to a selection of delicious canapes and the champagne flowed all afternoon........................

A delicious three course dinner held in the stunning Science Theatre which had been dressed to compliment Karen's amazing pink wedding dress.

Each table held a vintage candelabras decorated with pink Gerber's and Ivy, all around the hall matching freestanding candelabras were placed and all the candles were alight to give a romantic light to dine by and all the steel columns were all dressed with white fairy lights. The top table had an arrangement of huge Ginger Stems in the tallest of vases.

Karen & Tony had chosen a wonderful wedding cake made up of 165 individual cakes which were decorated with pink ribbon and each cake had either a white or pink rose on top which indicated vanilla sponge or chocolate sponge. Every Guest was given a cake to take home in their very own individual cake box.

Guests danced the night away to the Around Midnight and the evening was finished off with a surprise firework display which was fantastic!
